A Classic Mueller’s Lasagna Recipe

Equipment

  • 1 Large skillet or Dutch oven
  • 2 Mixing Bowls
  • 1 9×13 inch baking dish
  • 1 Spoon or Spatula
  • 1 Cheese grater (optional)

Ingredients

For the meat Sauce

  • ½ kg Lean ground beef or a combination of sausage and ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 Diced onion
  • 2 Minced cloves of garlic
  • 800 g crushedtomatoes
  • 170 g Tomato paste
  • ½ cup Spring water
  • 1 tablespoon Dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon Dried basil
  • ¼ tablesppon Black pepper
  • ¼ tablespoon Red pepper
  • ¼ tablespoon salt

For the Ricotta Mixture

  • 500 g 500gms of Ricotta cheese
  • ½ cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ cup Chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

For the Assembly

  • 500 g Mueller’s Lasagna noodles (no need for pre-cooking)· 
  • ½ cup Shredded Mozzarella cheese·
  • ½ cuo Parmesan cheese·

Optional Ingredients

  • Chopped spinach or mushrooms
  • Veggies, such as zucchini and bell peppers
  • Fresh basil leaves to garnish
  • Meatballs or shredded Italian sausage

Instructions

  • Brown the meat in your skillet over medium-high heat, cook the meat and onion in olive oil, stirring frequently until the ground beef is browned and the onion is tender. Make sure to break up the ground beef with a spoon and drain off any excess oil.
  • Sauté the aromatics by adding chopped onions and garlic to the skillet and cooking for about 5 minutes until tender.
  • Simmer the sauce by stirring the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if used). Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 15 to 20 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Prepare the ricotta mixture by combining ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, salt, and pepper, if need be, in a mixing bowl. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Put together the lasagna by spreading a thin layer of beef sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Top with a layer of lasagna noodles, overlapping slightly. Spread a layer of ricotta mixture over the noodles, and add another layer of meat sauce and a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers and finish with a layer of meat sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil, bake for 30 minutes, and allow it to bubble. After removing the foil, bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling and melted and the edges turn golden brown. Remove from the oven.

Notes

Let your lasagna cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired. Serve with your favorite side dish, including fresh green salads, roasted vegetables, sautéed spinach, and green bean salad.
